五百强盗成佛因缘故事 Five Hundred Bandits Attain Buddhahood

位于第285窟南壁,西魏大统四,五年(公元538-539年)绘,此图为五百强盗成佛因缘故事。故事说,古代有五百人造反,遭到镇压,被剜去了眼睛。他们的哀嚎感动了"普渡众生"的佛,因而复明,于是皈依佛教出家苦修,终于成佛。图中以五人表示五百,再现了1400多年前的战争景象。This is the detail of the Story of Five Hundred Bandits Attain Buddhahood,was painted on the south wall at cave 285 in 4th or 5th year of the Reign of Datong (538-539 A.D.), Western Wei Dynasty.This is the story about five hundred people rebelled and then were suppressed.Their eyes were savagely gouged out.Buddha was moved by their sad cries and kindly cured their eyes.Therefore they were converted to Buddhism and finally attained Buddhahood.In the figure which reappears the ancient war scene one thousand and four hundred years ago,five men are painted to represent five hundred people.

善生太子Prince Kalyanamitra

The Prince went on an excursion and witnessed the plight of his people.He sighed over that they had to cheat each other and slaughter animals for subsistence,and then to search treasure he went out to sea.After experiencing all sorts of hazards,he had success at last.

须达拿太子

叶波国太子须达拿,乐善好施。国王有一白象战无不胜。邻国买通婆罗门向太子乞象,太子遂施于婆罗门。国王大怒,将太子驱逐出国。太子即与妻子,子女上路,乘车而去。有婆罗门乞马,太子即以马与之。又一婆罗门乞车,太子又将车与之。又一婆罗门乞衣服,太子即以衣服与之。不久又有一婆罗门来乞其子女作奴仆,太子即以子女交给婆罗门。这伟大的布施行为感动了帝释天王,他就化现一个丑陋难看的婆罗门来乞其妻,太子以妻交给他。这位相貌丑恶的婆罗门,握了太子的妻子的手,往前走了七步,突然就变成相貌庄严的帝释天王,回过身来,把太子的妻子交还给太子,赞叹太子真心修行布施波罗密。并答应太子的妻子的三个愿求:父王接太子回宫,子女能够早日回到宫中,邻国送还白象。且说之前的婆罗门牽子女长街出卖,被买入宫廷。国王见到孙子,得知太子下落,便派大臣迎太子回国。邻国国王得知须达拿太子为布施白象给他,被驱逐受苦,心生大惭愧,马上把白象送回。从此两国更加友好团结。

鹿王本生 Deer King Jataka

美丽的九色鹿从恒河中救起溺水之人，溺人为报答九色鹿救命之恩，发誓不泄露其住处。当时国中王后梦见一鹿，身毛九色。次日就向国王要求捕捉九色鹿，剥其皮以作衣服。国王当即布告悬赏。溺水人见利忘义，到宫廷告密，并带领国王前往捕捉九色鹿。此时九色鹿正高卧山中，毫无所知。鹿的好友乌鸦对空长鸣，唤醒九色鹿。九色鹿毫无惧色，向国王诉述溺人忘恩负义的劣迹。国王深受感动，放鹿归山，还下令全国禁止捕猎九色鹿。此时，溺人周身生疮。
The nine-colored Deer King,named Ruru,rescues a drowning man;however,the man later forgets what is right and leads hunters to the deer’s hideout to profit from the great reward offered by the local king,who wants the deer for its precious horns and beautiful skin.The Deer King fearlessly addresses the king,telling him of the rescued man’s betrayal.Greatly moved,the king issues an order prohibiting the capture of the Deer King.Because of his betrayal,the rescued man in one version of the tale is made to suffer from sores on his whole body.
